Please note, the following tips and tricks are explained in reference to a Windows 8.1 PC hence the term ‘click’ has been used. If you are using Windows 8.1 on a tablet, then you just need to tab on the touch screen instead of clicking. 

  • Click the Windows key and the ‘C‘ key together
  • This will open the Charms bar on the right-side of the screen. This command applies to both desktop as well as touch-screen device.
  • In the Charms bar, click on ‘Change PC Settings’
  • This will open the ‘PC settings screen’ towards the left side
  • Now, click on ‘Search and apps,’ click on ‘App sizes’

After this, the ‘App sizes’ screen will get displayed. This screen has a progress bar and Windows will take a few minutes to show off the results. The screen also intimates about the free space available on your PC. For example, an ‘App Sizes’ screen message has been shown below:

“You have 50 GB of space available on your PC. If you want to uninstall an app, select it from the list and then tap or click Uninstall. After this message, your Windows will display the list of all the apps stored in your PC and will also show up the amount of space each app is consuming on your hard drive. If you consider that any of these apps is consuming too much space and you are not using it often, then you can uninstall it right from here. To uninstall the app, you simply need to click on it and then click the ‘Uninstall’ button.
